The bird of paradise opens at the top: pointed petals of orange and yellow glass fan upwards like a bird's crest, and a piece of yellow-green reaches out sideways as its beak. Below is a narrow rectangular frame of textured clear glass, with the stem running up its middle. Long leaves of grained green glass rise from the base, divided along their veins, and reach past the edge of the frame on both sides. The petals and leaves are all slender and pointed, so the piece is drawn in full on paper first and every tip is cut to match.
